Juvenile Academy

U6: We had a great turnout of 26 boys & girls joining into training today. Lovely to see new families coming to St Pats, you’re always welcome even if you don’t live near Blennerville. As usual we tried to keep the session fun with movement skills & ball skills. Great to see the kids enjoying the fun of movement. We practiced kicking with stepping into the ball, throwing & catching, penalties & obstacles. Keep practising at home kids even inside if allowed! As a physio & based on research in athletic development, any form of movement is great for kids at this age. Simple obstacles at home like jumping, hopping, crawling, rolling will all help movement pattern to develop for all sports. Balloons can be great for hand eye coordination for children who find throwing/ catching hard. Most importantly have fun moving! Hope to see you all next week.

U8: A great session this week with well over 30 boys and girls present. After practicing our skills we went into some small sided games and were treated to a fantastic display of skills. Oscar, Conor, Ailbe and Jason were in top form and a special mention to Cian O’Regan who scored a screamer into the top corner to win the game. Back next Sunday at 10am
U10: As we anticipated last week more of our players would be making their return to training as the Academy momentum gathers in late January – early February. And so it was this morning that we had twenty boys and girls fully enjoying the indoor session that the facility in the Kerry Sports Academy provides. This week, due to the high number of girls, they were able to do some training drills together and then joined back up with the boys at the end got a match. We were delighted to have new players, Tara Dowling and Kaela Reidy join in this year. While some of our returning players were a little rusty after the winter break they were soon into the swing of things after a vigorous warm up and a fun game. There was some excellent hand and kick passing practice which showed to good effect when we had a very competitive football game for the last twenty-five minutes of the session. It is good for our young players to wear a mouth guard during the session especially for the end of session games and we recommend all our players to have and wear one.
Congratulations to one of our young players, Isaac, on receiving the Player of the Week Trophy. Isaac has moved on from the Under-8s this year and is already showing great eagerness to improve his kicking and hand-passing skills…keep up the practice at home Isaac. The skill to practice at home for the week is foot passing.
We would welcome more boys and girls from the Tralee area to join us.
