Dingle Way Challenge 2019
Plans for the biggest and best DWC so far are well underway. The date is set for June 2nd (keep that date free and marked in your diaries and calendars). And as usual, there will be two challenges: The standard DWC, which is has a choice of 2 options – Option 1 is a 31km walk with the route going from from Ballyferriter to Dingle, and there will be return buses to Blennerville available from Dingle; Option 2 is a 53km walk from Ballyferriter to Annascaul (again, there will be buses available to Blennerville from Annascaul). Please note that buses will leave from Blennerville at 7am sharp for this option. And then we have the ultra route, which is 60km. This option starts at 5.45am at Murragh walk via Smerwick Harbour and Slea Head and on to Duncaoin for breakfast at Krugers, from where the walk takes you around Slea Head and on to Ventry and to Dingle for lunch. The ultra walkers will leave Dingle on the old Connor Pass road and turning east along the high road with takes in the spectacular views of Dingle Bay via Lispole and Minard with the walk finishing in Annascaul. The DWC registration is now open via www.spatsgaaclub.com<www.spatsgaaclub.com/> with an early bird offer of €45 if you register before the 30th of April or €50 if you register on or after the 1st of May.

Juvenile Academy
U6: We trained outdoors for the first time this year on our astro despite the unstable weather which thankfully held out for the hour. Congratulations to Ruby, our player of the week. Please note there will be no academy training on Sunday March 17th which is St Patrick’s Day. Instead, all our underage teams will participate in the St Patrick’s Day Parade. We urge parents and guardians to check our Facebook page for more details during the week and we will also send details to parents via the usual manner.
U8: Our U8’s continued their training last Sunday and were outside on our astro turf for the first time this year at the earlier time of 10.30am and everyone had lots of fun learning their skills. Player of the Week was Grace Costello who put in some tremendous work during the session. There will be no Academy next week, the 17th of March as we will be walking as a club in the St Patrick’s Day parade. Keep up the practice everyone!
U10: Our under-10 players weren’t daunted one bit by the Yellow weather warning that was in place last Sunday for our first outdoor session of 2019. Well done to all of the players that were there full of their usual enthusiasm and energy. It wasn’t a morning for standing around so they were quickly into their warm up routine, followed by some practice of the solo and the punt kick. The punt kick is one of the most common foot passing techniques in Gaelic football and may also be used to kick for a score when approaching the goal straight on. It is essential that our under-10 players practice this type of kick at home during the week to develop the confidence in their ability to do it properly. After a very good and active session in tough conditions the players were able to avail of a well-earned hot chocolate drink in the dressing rooms. Thanks to the parents who prepared and provided the refreshments.
Fógra – While the main stream media carried the story of Manchester United’s great comeback against Paris Saint-Germain some critical background activity went unreported. We can reveal that a key member of St. Pats senior team management was in the precincts of the Man U grounds the previous weekend. While de Murph is keeping quiet about a meeting with de Gunnar the grapevine has it that de Gunnar was very impressed by the tactical nous of the St Pats maestro!
U12: St. Pats under 12’s continued with their preparations for the County league with a couple of training sessions during the week. All our St Pats future stars put in a great effort especially Darragh Murphy, Liam O’Connor, Rory Daly & Luke Passway. Thanks to Dipo Dairo for helping out with training during the week. Next training session is this Fri 15th of March from 5.45pm to 6.45pm on our Astro pitch in Blennerville. Next Sun 17th March we will be taking part in the Tralee St Patricks Day parade so there is no training. Assembling for the parade is on John Joe Sheehy Rd by 11am…further details later in the week. The u12 county league starts Sunday 31st of March so it’s important ye all continue to attend our training sessions and keep practicing yer skills at home during the week. Naomh Pádraig Abú !!
U14 Boys: We faced Austin Stacks B last Sunday morning in round 4 of the Tralee Town Board League in Blennerville. We played well on the day but came up against a strong Stacks team. We had goals from Zach Howarth and Paddy Moran and points from Fionn Dairo (2) and Callum Hayes (1). Special mention goes to Josh Quilter, who having played a rugby match earlier that morning, still turned up to the field and played in the second half. His commitment and desire to play didn’t go unnoticed. Our next match is on Monday, the 18th of February when we take on Na Gaeil in a round 5 fixture. Throw-in is at 11am.
U14 Girls: We had another good training session last week. Training continues this Wednesday at 6pm in Cumann Iosaef. Please remember to wear appropriate foot wear and don’t forget your gum shields. There will be a cost of €2 per player to cover the costs of hall rental. This may be our last indoor session before we move outdoors.

Minors
Our minors welcomed Ballymac last Saturday afternoon to Blennerville for a round 3 minor Football League fixture. Unfortunately, we were defeated by a strong Ballymac side who dominated the game from the start on a score line of St Pats 1-6 to Ballymac’s 5-15. Huge credit to our young men who fought to the bitter end.
Our next match is a round 4 away encounter against Listowel Emmets next Saturday, the 16th of March and the match throws in at 3pm.

Seniors
Credit Union SFL Division 3 Round 1
Keel 0-07 St Pats 0-07
St Pats kicked off their County League campaign last Sunday afternoon with a draw away to Keel in a match played under windy and torrential shower conditions.
Despite the low scores and inclement weather, this game was open, fast and produced some great scores from both sides even when the football wasn’t free-flowing and there were lots of turnovers on both sides.
St Pats started the match well and were 2 points up after 3 minutes. It took Keel 2 more minutes before they got on the score sheet through a converted free. There were great defending by our backs often causing the ball to be turned over but in moments, we gave Keel too much space which was them come into the half as the scores were 4 apiece at the end of the first half.
Keel nudged ahead a minute into the second half and we drew level 4 minutes later and then went a point ahead mid-way into the half. The home team replied with 2 straight points of their own as we battled hard and were rewarded with a free which was converted a minute to the end of the match as both sides finished with 7 points.
We are at home against Currow on the 24th of March and we urge our supporters to come out and support the team.

Congratulations
To Anne and Jimmy Mulligan on the celebration of a wedding anniversary recently.
