Academy
U6: We had 19 boys and girls training this morning, we avoided the showers & had a fun energetic session. Bringing back a few old favourite evasion games & obstacle courses worked well & kept the fun alive! Well done to our player of the week Devran who joined the group with enthusiasm & great listening. We want to finish out our season with high energy & plenty of practice at home & on the pitch before our winter break. Great to have lots of youngsters joining our group, keep up any ball / balloon handling at home to help the hand eye coordination. See you all next Sunday 10.30am
U8: The academy for our U8’s continued last Sunday morning with a good turnout on the day and everyone had lots of fun learning their skills.
U10: Following the constant rain on Saturday last the under-10s arrived to a fairly sodden pitch for their Sunday morning session. Undeterred by the slippery underfoot conditions they were all soon into the warm up circuit, followed by some hand passing and kick passing exercises which took them over and back the width of the pitch a number of times. Following a quick shooting drill they fully engaged in a very competitive game where we had some good scoring by Ródhan, Rhíana, Gearóid and Stephen, while James, Rian and Eddie were very strong in defence. Some very good ball winning and distribution were contributed by Sharon, Lainey and Tara and giving a great display of ball catching was Patryk. After such an action packed session it was hard to determine the player of the week with the decision going to a well deserving Patryk. Well done to Patryk.

Senior Football Championship
Hard luck to St Brendans Board who were defeated by South Kerry in round 2A of the Senior Football County Championship last Saturday evening in Austin Stack’s Park. Full time scores were South Kerry 1-12 St Brendans 1-09. St Pats players who saw action were David O’Callaghan (stand in captain), Paul McMahon and Kieran Dwyer. Also Brendan Poff (c) and Willie Hurley came on as subs. They will now face Shannon Rangers in the 3rd round this Saturday, the 5th of October at 5pm in Austin Stacks Park with extra-time to be played if required.

Kerry College and the Kerry County GAA Board Producing Referees of the Future

This week saw the launch of another unique and innovative collaboration between Kerry College and the Kerry County GAA Board. To ensure a steady provision of professionally trained referees; the College has teamed up with the County Board to offer students studying on the QQI GAA Coaching & Sports Development course an opportunity to undertake training and attain the GAA Refereeing certification as an integral part of their course. According to Mary Lucey, Principal Kerry College, Clash and Denny Street Campuses: “Kerry College is delighted to be involved in the nurturing and cultivation of the future cohort of GAA referees. This is a wonderful opportunity for students as it will mean that they can offer their services as referees to the County.

To launch the new collaboration, St Pat’s GAA Club in Blennerville has offered a GAA Scholarship to cover the full cost of studying on the programme for the academic year. As part of the scholarship the recipient will provide support to the sponsoring club through the provision of refereeing services; enabling the student to gain first hand experience on the field. Jimmy Mulligan, Chairperson of St Pat’s added “Our aim is that other GAA clubs across the county will come on board supporting students in furthering their education in the GAA Coaching and Sports Development arena. Through this collaboration, the GAA will be sure of a constant stream of highly qualified referees to make consistent and informed decisions and act at all times with integrity both on and off the pitch. The County Board will provide expert training and workshops from top level national GAA referees tutors as part of the initiative.”

A limited number of places remain available on the course; apply now at kerryfe.ie.
