Juvenile Academy
U6: Welcome back to all after our summer break. It was great to see the skills progressing after a lot of players had enjoyed the recent Cúl Camp week in St Pats. The sun shone for our fun session of evasion games, animal moves & ball skills. We had a good turnout of 16 players from 3-6 years old. This allowed 2 little matches which all the children are really enjoying and more confident in their team play. Keep practicing at home even it’s only 1 against 1!! We enjoyed a game of roller ball & a competitive tug of war before our stretches. A warm welcome to the Foale family new to the area with Aaron in under 6 and Jason in under 8s. And also welcome to Donnacha O’Sullivan who joined in for his first time today.. full of energy and enthusiasm earned him the player of the week trophy Well done to all, see you next week…. goooo St Pats!!!!
U8: Training resumed for our under 8’s last Sunday with a huge turnout of 20 players. We started with some fun animal movement warm up games followed by some kicking and hand-passing drills and finishing with two great games. A lot of the players were a bit rusty from the long break but some players obviously were working hard on their skills over the summer; none more so than Oscar Curran, who got Player of the Week. Well done Oscar. We were also delighted to welcome a new player to our team, Jason Foale. Jason will be starting in first class in Blennerville in September so it was a great opportunity for him to meet some of his new classmates before they go back in two week’s time. Welcome to St Pats Jason! I would encourage all parents to spend some time with your son/daughter practicing the basic skills of catching kicking, hand-passing and travelling with the ball; particularly when they are still off from school. It will improve their skills no end and 1-2 hours a week isn’t enough time for them to develop as players. We will play Na Gaeil in Na Gaeil in a friendly game this Thursday at 6:30pm. Academy training will continue this Sunday at the normal time of 10:30am. We will also look to reschedule the academy of the Sunday of the All Ireland to the Friday or Saturday evening. We will confirm this later this week.
U10: While we had a few weeks break from the Academy sessions most of our young players participated in the Kellogs Cúl Camp held in St. Pats from the 5th to 9th August and had a great week of fun and games. We were invited to participate in the Eoin Griffin Memorial tournament hosted by the Beale Club in Ballybunion last Saturday. While a bit out of match practice initially the team improved across all three games against Ballydonoghue, Brosna and Beale respectively. It was a great way to get back into action again and we appreciated the invitation from and the hospitality of the Beale Club. Many thanks to the parents for getting the players to Ballybunion early on Saturday morning.
Along with the Under 6’s and Under 8’s we resumed our Academy sessions last Sunday morning with a good and active session at the end of which the Player of the Week trophy was awarded to Eddie Hayes. During the game at the end of our session Eddie displayed some great kicking, hand passing and blocking skills and looked like a player who had kept up the skill practice during the break….well done to Eddie.
U13: Our division 2 Tralee Town League match against Na Gaeil which was to have been played last week is now deferred to after the Rose Cup, which is next weekend in which our opponents will be taking part in.
We however will be playing Kerins O’Rahillys this Thursday, the 22nd August at 6.30pm in Ballyrickard. It is important that all eligible players turn up for this match.
U14 Girls: We were defeated by a particularly strong Ballymac side last Wednesday evening in Blennerville in round 1 of the North Kerry League. After a very poor first half, our girls rallied in the second half but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome of the match.
Our next match is this Tuesday when we play Abbeydorney away at 7pm. Best of luck to all involved.
U14 Boys: Our match against Na Gaeil which was meant to be a St Brendan’s League B final last Monday didn’t take place as published last week. Both teams to agree on a possible date.

Tony O’Donoghue Memorial Walk
The Tony O’Donoghue memorial walk which is in its 5th year will be held on Saturday, the 7th of September at 5pm. The walk which is circa 5km will begin at the Windmill car park. This walk is open to all and all proceeds in the form of donations raised on the day will go towards the Palliative Care Unit/Kerry Hospice Foundation.
