Juvenile Academy
U6: We had a good turn out in the fine weather this morning. It was great to see all the children fit and active over the course of the session where there were lots of ball handling and mini matches. Well done to all for joining in. As usual, training resumes next Sunday at 10.30am in the astro pitch.
U8: Our U8’s had a great session last Sunday morning. Training was good and all the kids gave a great effort and commitment as well as displaying some great control and skill. Thanks to all who attended. Training continues next Sunday at 10.30 am.
U10: Following a good session last Sunday that finished with an intense game the Player of the Week trophy was presented to a well deserving Chloe. We are expecting a visit from the Milltown U10 players on next Sunday and we hope all of our young players will be available to play. We will have one more training session on Sunday 14th July before we take a short break with training to resume again after the Cúl Camp. If you are interested in taking part in this year’s Cúl Camp details are available on the Club website at www.stpatsgaaclub.com
U14 Girls: We are playing Castlegregory in the County League Division 5 B final on Sunday, the 7th of July. Time and venue to be decided.
U14 Boys: Our U14 boys were defeated by a strong Laune Rangers side last Monday in round 2 of the Central Region Competition. Credit to the boys who fought till the end and left everything on the pitch as we had no subs to bring on. They hope to bounce back this Monday when they welcome Stack B to Blennerville this Monday, the 1st of July at 7pm.
U16: Our U16’s took on Tarbert in Blennerville last Wednesday in Round 1, Division 8 of the County League but were defeated by a side that grew as the game went on. We had the upper hand in the early stages of the first half but failed to convert the chances that came their way and our opponents were more clinical in front of goals which saw them take the points at stake on a scoreline of 5-12 to our 1-10.
Juniors Our next match is a round 4 fixture when we travel west to play An Ghaeltacht this Friday, the 5th of July at 7.30pm in Gallarus.
Seniors
Milltown/Castlemaine 1-12 St Pats 0-11 Our position in Division 3 of the County League still remains unchanged after we lost our 5th match in this competition away to Milltown/Castlemaine last Sunday afternoon.
Played in dry but slightly windy conditions, the home side registered the first point from play after a minute but it took a 14 minute wait to witness the next score, also by M/C. Within this lull period, the hosts had registered 6 wides and added another 4 before the end of the half. Our first point was from a free after 15 minutes and then we went on to score the next 3, which was our best effort in the whole match. Milltown/Castlemaine’s goal came in the 20th minute when a ball that was adjudged to have gone out was retrieved by their forward, who sent in a low ball that flew past our goalkeeper and into the net. They added another 2 points which seemed to galvanise our boys but lady luck was against us as their goalkeeper made a fine save towards the end of the half and the resultant shot from the save rattled the post and went wide as the home side held on to a slim 1-04 to 6 points lead at the break. The second half wasn’t much better for us but this time, the home side were more clinical in attack and put 13 men behind the ball for most periods of the match when defending which made it difficult for our boys to penetrate. This often left our backline bare which they capitalised on a few occasions to see out the game on a score line of 1-12 to 11 points.
