Juvenile Academy
U5’s: An engaged and enthusiastic group of girls and boys took part in a great session. The cooler dry weather made for high energy training, excellent passing and movement skills as well as some high catching and kicking were on display. Saoirse Higgins had put in serious work this week and very much deserved player of the week.
U7’s: A great turn out for training this morning ahead of our go games next Sunday in Ardfert at 10
We played plenty of football and went through skills needed for games.
We even welcomed back a few players who were on holidays and a few new players turned up too
A big thanks to Paudi, John, Fizzy, Noel and Paul Players of the week were Emma Higgins and Eanna Sheehan
U9’s: We had great numbers this morning and the boys were full of energy. We practiced our hand passing and kicking before we played 2 games. All 4 teams were very competitive, players to catch the eye were Dylan Murphy, Bruce McMillan, Paddy Costello, Oscar Curran, and James O Riordan. Congrats to our two players of the week; Flynn Howard whose attitude was superb and Thomas Higgins who’s tackling was a great example to his team. We will play Cromane next Sunday at 12.30 in Blennerville.
U8 & 10 Girls: The under 8’s girls were very small group so they joined the under 7’s with Liam Poff’s Pod. Senior player Emma Gilbride moved up to under 10’s and showed us great football skills today. We started with a few fundamental movement games followed by basic drills, maintaining possession and trying to gain possession. This was followed by a mini-match for the first ten minutes, the girls were only allowed score by charging through a narrow gap while maintaining ball possession. For the last ten minutes we player a proper match and the girls showed fantastic football skills. Welcome to Sofia Ladjuscenkova on her first day at St. Pats, while she never played football before, she showed great interest in it today and won player of the week with her enthusiasm. Keep up with practising at home girls! Games coming up in the next couple of weeks.
U11’s: Our u11 side had a return to their Go games last Thursday evening away to Asdee-Ballylongford. It was our first game of phase 2 of the Lee Strand Co League Go Games. With many of our players on well-deserved holiday breaks we travelled with depleted numbers. Both teams fielded what turned out to be evenly match teams providing the spectators with a very competitive and keenly contested match. The St Pats team played very well for most of the game in dry and windy conditions. Some great forward play and point scoring was demonstrated by Sam, Jake, Paddy, Alannah and Ethan. Rylan who had a good first half as goalkeeper turned poacher for the second half scoring three wonderful goals which were added to by Stephen with another hat-trick. Of course our defence had to withstand some very good attacking play from the Asdee/Ballylongford team with Sarah, James, Bruce, Aisling and Eddie in goals for the second half defending stoutly. Go Games while played in a competitive manner don’t form part of an overall competition and there is no provision made to publish scores. These games provide the opportunity for all of our Under-11 players to play in competitive games in a manner which helps the players to develop without having the pressure to qualify for semi-finals, finals, etc. We returned to St Pats pitch for our training session on Sunday morning. We began the session with some drills to work on hand-passing, and evasion. The focus was to make the player in possession look for an unmarked player. We followed these with a practice game where only hand-passing was allowed. We want our players to work on their hand pass accuracy and improve the speed they move the ball in play. We finished the session with a full game and we could see an improvement in players movement to get away from their marker and running into free space to receive a pass. Rylan, Sean, Aidan, Charlie and Thomas impressed the coaches with their work rate and eye for goal. Keep up the practice at home, especially the solo and high catch. The Go games resume this Thursday at home to Gneeveguilla. Training will resume on Sunday, at the earlier time of 10:30 at St Pat’s club grounds in Blennerville V92 RH98. A reminder to parents that all players are to have a gum shield and to wear it at matches and training and to register on www.foireann.ie
U12 Girls: The U12 girls worked on the hop and solo and kick passes in training today. We started off with some fun warm up games followed by skill specific drills. They focused on attacking and defending principles, communication and getting into space in small-sided games. We finished off with a full game with both teams working well on the ball up the pitch and scoring. All girls played well and are improving each week.
Congratulations to Sarah Greaney on receiving player of the week. It was well deserved after her hard work and enthusiasm each week.
U13’s: Our U13’s trained last Friday evening with the U15’s in the rain. Well done to all who attended. There is no game this Sunday or Sunday week. Next game is away to Duagh on Monday 16 August at 7pm. Training continues this Tuesday at 6pm.
U15’s: We kicked off our U15 Kellihers Garage Central Region competition last Wednesday evening in Blennerville with a loss to Stack’s B. After a tentative start by both teams, the visitors went 2 points up after 12 minutes and we responded with a point from Killian O’Mahony. Unfortunately, they stuck in a goal after our defence was cut open just before the first water break. The period after this was one of our best moments in the match, scoring 1-5 with Darragh Murphy finding the net but our mistakes were constantly punished by the opposition who looked hungrier and sharper in front of goals as they led 3-5 to 1-5 at half-time. In the second half, we tried to make amends with our players committing upfront and we did have moments of great play and scored some great points but that meant that our defence was open, and we were faced with 1 v 2, 1 v 3 situations which they capitalised on. Leo Keane scored a goal for us late in the game, but it was not enough as Stacks won comfortably on a scoreline of 7-9 to 2-13. We had a combined training session last Friday under very wet conditions with our U13s and we have a bye this Wednesday. We will either have a training session or a challenge match. We will communicate to the parents closer to the day.
U16 Girls: Training continues twice weekly.
Minors
Best of luck to our minors who will play Laune Rangers B in the semi-finals of the Minor Football League, Division 11 on Thursday 19 August at 7pm in Killorglin. There will be extra time and a winner on the day.
Kerry Petroleum Junior Premier Football Championship
The draws were made last Thursday, and we are in Group 1 with Brosna, the winners between Annascaul and Castlegregory who are yet to complete 2020’s Junior Final and Keel.
As with last year, the group stages will depend on how far Kerry progress in the current 2021 All-Ireland competition.
Also, venues for Group stages will be the same as per previous years i.e. one home, one away & one neutral. Except where the CCC agrees to make an exception, a club that refuses to host a neutral club championship game will automatically lose their home game.
Congratulations/Best wishes
Best wishes to current senior player and U9 trainer, David O’Callaghan and Clare Daly ahead of their big day this Friday.
Congratulations to David O’Brien and Anna Buckley who got married recently.
Best Regards,
Dipo Dairo
