There was no winner of our Club Lotto Jackpot of €6600 on Sunday night last. The numbers drawn were 07, 19, 23 & 26. The five €30 consolation prizes went to: 1. Brenda Conway c/o Poff Motors, 2. Juvenile Academy
U5’s: A scorchingly hot morning didn’t smother the enthusiasm of the boys and girls that turned up. We did a fun animal movements warmup and moved on to training stations where some great skills were on display. Cathal Scanlon has always shown great commitment in every training and his listening and effort this week earned him the player of the week trophy.
U7’s: We had an excellent turn out in hot conditions in Blennerville today. Massive effort was put in by all boys and girls. As always big thanks to all the trainers, John, Paudi, Paul and excellent goal keeping by David Hennebery. A big well done to Ronan Kane who was our player of the week.
U9’s: We had a couple of games in the sun against Fossa today with the u9s. Despite the heat thy boys showed great effort and there were lots of great scored and some superb defending. Thanks to all parents for making the effort to get to Killarney. We have two more rounds left in the go games blitz and we will be in touch with parents this week regarding the next fixture.
U11’s: Our u11 side had a break from the Go games last week so the focus was on preparing for the next round of games. We had our training session on a fine summers evening last Friday. We were delighted the u12 girls team joined us for training this week. They listened attentively and brought increased energy to the session. They are a great group and are a credit to their coaches and parents. We had a good skills session followed by a energetic practice match between mixed sides. Keep up the practice at home, especially the solo and high catch. The Go games are due to resume this week, we will send confirmation of fixtures to the group as soon as we have them. Training will resume on Sunday at 12 noon at St Pat’s club grounds in Blennerville V92 RH98. A reminder to parents that all players are to have a gum shield and to wear it at training and to register on www.foireann.ie
U8-12 Girls: It was a busy weekends sport in the heat for our girls. Under 12s & Under 10s made the trip to Annascaul for challenge matches to give some of our girls their first chance at match play. Both teams did very well in large-sided matches against very physical Annascaul girls. The under 12s are looking well drilled by Norma & Siobhan and are finding their strengths and positions. Eve O’Regan, Eve O’Sullivan and Katelyn Laide showed their practice paying off and despite their inexperience they played with great courage.
Under 10s were up against a bigger Annascaul team, they got the hang of spreading out and delivering their passes wider to the wings as the 3 sessions went on. Very well done to Ailbhe Hennessy who worked tirelessly in mid field and delivered a lot of passes to Kaela Reidy who is getting the hang of getting into space. Emma Gilbride stepped up from under 8s and was fantastic in defence. Very well done to Emma and Jessica Lacey for their first ever match, Emma delivered great kick outs from goals. Under 10s are out again on Monday night against Castlegregory and potentially John Mitchells the following weekend. Keep up the practice girls.
U13’s: Our U13’s are training in preparation for Phase 2 of the U13 County League.
U15’s: Lee Strand U15 Div 8 Cross Over Semi-Final
Our U15’s are through to a County Final for the first time in a long while after seeing off the challenge of Beale in Ballybunion last Wednesday evening in which Jack Costello almost single-handedly took the game to the home team and bagged 3 goals and a point for his efforts.
We got off to a flying start, scoring a goal after 3 minutes and he followed with another point 5 minutes later. These were the only scores going into the first water break. Both sides were wasteful, especially in the final third but credit to our backline for not giving the Beale forwards plenty scoring chances but they still scored 3 points. We saw plenty of the ball but only managed to score a point from a Darragh Murphy free leaving the half time score Beale 0-3 St Pats 1-2
The second half was a continuation of the first half with both teams labouring and finding it difficult to put some scores up. However, we scored another free through Darragh Murphy and Beale a further 2 points with the game hanging in the balance as we approached the second water break with a solitary point ahead. The introduction of Fionn after the second water break seemed to galvanise the team and he scored a point within a minute of being on and then there was a flurry of goals with Jack scoring 2 more goals and points from Darragh O’Brien and another goal scored by Roddy. Within 10 minutes, we scored 3-5 and Beale 1 point to leave the final score 4-6 to 6 points in our favour.
We had another light training last Saturday evening under very warm conditions in preparation for our final which will be this Wednesday at 7.30pm against Skellig Rangers in Killorglin. Best of luck to all involved.
U16 Girls: Training continues this Monday from 6.15 to 7.15pm.
Minors
Our U17’s lost heavily at home to Templenoe/Sneem/Derrynane last Monday evening at home in the Central Region U17 Competition. Full time score was St Pats 0-08 Templenoe/Sneem/Derrynane 3-18.
We have a bye in the next round.
Seniors
SFL Div 3A, Round 4 St Pats 1-07 Churchill 1-15
Churchill took the points at stake when they made the very short trip to Blennerville to honour this County League fixture in which Ivan Parker scored 1-07 with 2 from frees. Played on Sunday afternoon in very hot conditions, the away side were 3 points up after 3 minutes through Jack Dolan, Damian Doherty and Liam O’Connell – all from play and despite losing Cillian Fitzgerald through a black card very early in the game, we failed to make the extra man count and had kicked 4 wides before the first water break. Joe Linehan suffered a bad shoulder injury as was replaced by Daniel Greaney, who also later had to make way through a knee injury. Eoghan O’Brien pointed the resultant free to take them 4 points ahead. David O’Callaghan registered our first point from 45 meters and was quickly followed by an Eoin Greaney point that just sailed over the bar on 16 minutes. Willie kicked our third point just after the first water break but further points from Churchill saw them take a 6 point lead into the break. The second half started similarly to how the first half ended with Churchill controlling matters and increased their lead after 2 minutes through Parker. Willie converted a free on five minutes and in a bid to close the gap, we sent in Paul McMahon on the edge of the square but he was very heavily marked by the organised Churchill defence. Parker then scored from the penalty spot following a direct run through the middle of our defence by Liam O’Donnell and was fouled, to take them 9 points ahead after only 14 minutes of the half played. Just after the second water break, Kieran Dwyer made his now customary darting runs from defence and fed to ball to David, who’s effort on goal was “leg blocked”. Breandain Savage stepped up and fired through the middle but the away side still looked the more dangerous and hungrier side as we found it difficult to break Churchill’s defence and they on the other hand scored 5 unanswered points and ran away comfortable winners on a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-07.
Round 5 of the same competition is against Glenflesk and this will be played in Blennerville on Sunday, August 1 at 2pm.
St Pats Cúl Camp 2021
To the parents/guardians of kids who will attend the St Pats Cúl Camp which starts from 19th to 23rd of July, there are some checklists that should be adhered to:
* Sign confirmation of child’s health status daily * Complete the Covid-19 GAA Education Module at learning.gaa.ie/covid19 * Monitor child’s temperature before each day of camp * Ensure that each child has washed their hands before arriving to the camp * Escort child to specific group of the pitch * Maintain social distancing at all times * No child is permitted to have mobile phones * Food for 3 break times (if you have more than 1 child, ensure each child carries their own lunch – no sharing) * Gumshield for the child/children * Provide waterproof storage (bags will be outside) * Label all clothing, water bottles and hand sanitisers
NO person or child should attend camp if they are unwell or members of their household are showing symptoms consistent with Covid-19.
Community Games
Community Games athletic county finals will take place on Aug. 21st & 22nd at An Riocht track in Castleisland. Munster finals will take place in Cork on Sept 18th and Nationals in Tullamore on Sept 25th and 26th. We will hold our local athletics evening at 6.30pm on Wednesday 21st July in St Pats Gaa Blennerville field. This is for children residing in Blennerville Ballyard area only. Parents must register competitors on the evening. This year only one competitor goes through to county finals in each event. They cannot enter both a track and a field event. There are no relays this year. Full list of athletic events for 2021: U8 60m only. U10 100m, 200m, 60m hurdles. U12 100m, 600m, Ball throw, Long puck (boys). U14 100m, 800m, 80m hurdles, Javelin, Shot putt, Long Jump, Long puck (girls). U16 100m, 200m, 1500m, High jump, Discus. Tiny tots race BLENNERVILLE BALLYARD COMMUNITY GAMES CATCHMENT AREA includes: Blennerville, Ballyard, Tonevane to Derryquay, Strand Road, Lohercannon, Ballyvelly, Ballyrickard, Knockmoyle, Kerins Pk, O’Rahillys Villas, Cluain Ard, The Kerries housing est.
