Juvenile Academy
U5’s: A massive turnout of 33 boys and girls enjoyed our third training session in decent conditions. There were lots of fun warm ups with plenty of ideas from kids for games and activities. Donncha O’Shea really got stuck in and showed he was really listening to his coaches snagging him the player of the week trophy.
U7’s: We had a very good session last Sunday morning in great conditions. Great numbers in both boys and girls A big thanks to Martina and Caoimhe who helped out with the girls again (forgot to thank Therese Greaney who helped last week and will be back next week) and to Eoin Greaney who helped out too. Players of the week were Dara O’Regan and Cara Scott.
U9’s: We had a great session on Sunday with 25 boys present. After fine tuning our pick-ups and hand passing we focused on our movement skills before playing matches. We had some stunning displays from Thomas Higgins, Cian ORegan, Fionn Sharp and a special mention to Rilan Flynn who took a heavy knock but got back up to score a great point from a long range free for his team. See you again next Sunday.
U11’s: Our u11’s trained last Friday evening and Sunday morning. The coaches were glad to see a huge turnout again this week, especially on a very wet evening last Friday. Our sessions mix fun games with skills development. This week we worked on hand passing and fun games. At the end of each session, we played a mini game and we saw great improvement in our players skill levels. There were excellent displays from James Daly, Sarah Greaney, Rylan and Jace Flynn. We also welcomed back Jake Kelly to the group and he quickly got back up to speed. We are always delighted to see players return as well as new players join our club and community at St Pats. Training continues next Friday 7th May at 6p.m. and Sunday at 12 noon at St Pat’s club grounds in Blennerville V92 RH98. A reminder to parents that all players are to have a gum shield and to wear it at training and to register on www.foireann.ie
U9-12 Girls: We had a big turnout this morning of 30 girls who all showed great skill, commitment and tenacity. The girls were spilt up into 3 pods and the coaches were very happy with their command and understanding of the basic skills of catching kicking and shooting on goals and it’s obvious a lot of practice is being done at home. Special mention goes to Hannah Enright and Kaela Reidy in pod 2,Lily Breen and Rihanna O’Brien in pod 3. But the player of the week was newcomer Safira Ekren. Everybody keep up the practice and remember “We are St Pats”
U13’s: U 13s are training very well. Skill levels are high and the application in training is superb.
U15’s: Our U15s enjoyed 2 games-based training sessions last week. Thanks to Tom Joy, Tralee Urban GDA for hosting our mid-week session. It is important that our boys continue to sharpen their skills at home in preparation for our first competitive game on the 9th of June.
U16 Girls: Training continues this Tuesday evening from 6.15 to 7.30pm.
U17’s: Our minors are up and running and heading into their fourth week of training. Similar to last year, we have welcomed new players into this age group, which is great to see. Our coaches, Luke Mulligan, Kieran Dwyer, Eoin Greaney and Liam O’Sullivan (all current St Pats senior players) have created a great environment for the lads to develop and improve and that can only serve them well when matches resume in the weeks ahead. New players are still welcome to join and can make contact with the club through any of the social media platforms to get the ball rolling.
Covid-19 Update Information for Clubs
Adult and Underage Training: From last Monday, May 10th, both adult and underage training are permitted on a full contact basis in pods of 15 for all Gaelic Games teams in the 26 Counties. Games (including challenge games) will not be permitted until June 10th. GAA Injury Benefit Fund cover remains in place until May 31st, 2021 based on 2020 team registrations as previously communicated. Details on the 2021 GAA Injury Benefit Fund cover/registration will issue in due course. Indoor use of facilities: We wish to remind all clubs that use of indoor facilities for GAA activity is not permitted. Gym facilities must remain closed (exception: A player on an inter county panel may use their relevant Club Gym for individual training as long as they are following the advice in the Inter County Return to Training and Play document) The only instances where indoor facilities for non-GAA activities can be used are where: a. agreement was in place prior to March 2020. b. relevant insurance is in place and c. The activity is one permitted at a given point in time under the Government’s “Resilience and Recovery – the Path Ahead”. Use by State bodies (e.g., HSE/Dept of Health/Dept of Education) is also permitted. Membership: Please note that May 31st, 2021 is the date by which members must be registered and paid by in order to have voting rights at the next club AGM. All playing members must be registered in advance of returning to play/train on Foireann in order for Injury Fund cover to be in place. Officer Training: All Officer Training should continue to be delivered online. Outdoor coaching education courses may be held but are subject to a 15-person maximum.
