St Pats Notes 25/05/2020

Lotto

Our club lotto remains suspended in line with the Government / HSE advice at that time.
While this is a regrettable decision it is necessary to safeguard the health of our club officer’s lotto players and our many promoters.
We thank all our promoters and supporters of the St. Pats Club Lotto and we look forward to your support again hopefully in the not too distant future.

Dingle Way Challenge

Our annual DWC was meant to be taking place this Bank Holiday weekend as it had been for the past 7 years. However, as with all other activities during this pandemic and the restrictions put in place to “flatten the curve”, it had to be called off.
Our walkers however have the opportunity to compete in their own DWC this Bank Holiday weekend (Saturday or Sunday) but walking 4.1km or doing it 10 times, which would have equalled our Standard route of 41km this year. Families are not left out too, they can do some outdoor activity such as walking, running, skipping displaying football skills etc for 41 minutes. Photos of your activity can be sent to club PRO via the address: Pro.stpatricksblennerville.kerry@gaa.ie<mailto:Pro.stpatricksblennerville.kerry@gaa.ie> and we will post on our Club Facebook page, with your permission.
We want to take this opportunity to remind our past participants to reserve next year’s June 2021 Bank Holiday weekend (6th June), when we hope that we will be able to enjoy a day of taking in the beauty that West Kerry has to offer.
At all times be familiar with and observe the Government/HSE advice on keeping safe from and reducing the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

Phase One of Eased Restrictions

Phase One of the roadmap to reopen our economy and society officially began last Monday. People are now being urged to use face coverings when using busy public transport or when in enclosed indoor public areas, such as retail outlets. Here is a breakdown of what the new Covid-19 rules mean:
* Up to four people who don’t live together can meet outdoors while keeping at least 2 metres apart. Everyone at meeting must be within 5km of their home. * Outdoor workers including builders and gardeners can return provided social distancing rules are applied. Everybody else, aside from essential workers like healthcare staff, must continue to operate from home. * Hardware stores, garden centres, farmers’ markets and other shops that are primarily outdoors can get back to business. Also reopening are opticians, garages, bicycle shops and stores that sell office products, electoral goods, IT and phones. * Golf and tennis are the two main sports which are allowed. Playing pitches are allowed to open if social distancing can be maintained but team sports are banned. People can exercise in groups of up to four people where there is no contact. * Cars parks at beaches, parks and mountain walks can reopen where people can move around freely and where social distancing can be maintained. * Teachers will be able to access school and college buildings if it helps with the distribution of remote learning. * Attendance at funerals will still be limited to 10 people. * The 5km travel limit remains in place. * You should still stay at home as much as possible. * Those over 70 or considered vulnerable should continue to stay at home except for their daily exercise.

GAA Update

The GAA has confirmed that no official on-field activity will resume before July 20 and our facilities will remain closed until that date and will issue detailed advice before any return to play, outlining the steps needed to take to facilitate the re-commencement of our training and games, both in terms of physical engagement and around the use of our facilities.

The GAA Player Injury Scheme will remain closed until an official return to activity is confirmed.

Clubs are reminded that membership and public liability will need to be in place for the return of our activities and are advised to process same in the weeks ahead.

Allowing for the complexities associated with the current situation, the GAA continues to plan for the staging of this year’s Kellogg’s Cúl Camps and will communicate any changes to this approach with our clubs if they arise.

The maintenance of facilities can continue while adhering to the guidelines and as of May 18 construction work on our grounds is also permitted and clubs should liaise with their County Committees on this issue.

The GAA also underlines the importance of continuing to adhere to the guidelines to ensure that the country as a whole meets its targets in the coming weeks allowing us to make progress and facilitate a return to the games we love when it is safe to do so.

Birthday Wishes

Best wishes to Juvenile Chairperson, Joe Costello who marked a significant birthday with a “0” last week.

Sympathy
The club would like to extend its sympathy to the families and friends of Maurice (Moss) Spillane Balloonagh Estate and formerly of Scartaglin and Mike O’Neill of the Railway Tavern Camp.

Best Regards,
