Juvenile Academy
U6: We had a good turn out in the fine weather this morning. Great to see all the children fit and active over their school holidays. We had a fun session will lots of ball handling and mini matches. Well done to all for joining in. Special mention to Christian our player of the week today .. he got stuck in and enjoyed the session, great work, keep it up! Thanks to all the parents for being so willing to help out with the juice and roll call etc, we have a lovely community spirit going. A big thank you to the Turner family for providing us with a new large insulated drinks container and a lot of juice. This will make it very easy for all involved. Thanks to Ross Fealy who has offered to provide a bulk box of biscuits to keep us going for a few weeks! We’re very grateful & the children are enjoying their run around afterwards!
U8: Last week was a very busy week for our Under 8’s while they were on Easter Holidays. They played in the Kerry Coiste na nÓg blitz last Wednesday where they played 3 games against John Mitchels, Scartaglin and Kilcummin. We had some great performances from all the 18 players that played and it was a great experience for all involved. A big thanks to coaches John and Joe who were ably assisted by parents Aiden and Gary. We also had academy training last Sunday in glorious sunshine with another big turnout. We worked on some fundamental & agility movements, some kick passing, 2v1 games and then finished with two games and penalties of course. Player of the week went to Paddy Flynn who played fantastic in the training game and took some great scores. Training continues next Sunday at 10:30am. Please Please Please practice at home boys and girls and your skills will improve no end!

The club would also like to thank Aiden and Sarah Turner who donated a large drinks tank for dispensing the drinks to the academy children on Sunday’s as well as a load of refreshments. The club are also very appreciative of all the moms and dads who help with the running of the academy on Sundays by helping with the training, marking out the pitches, giving the drinks to the kids and parents after training and much more. Ní neart go cur le chéile!
U10: We had a very good turn-out of our under 10 players at the Go-Game blitz for under 10’s organised by the Kerry GAA after Easter. The blitz was held in the John Mitchels pitches and was well participated in by teams from all over Kerry. Our gallant players had three games back to back against Dromid Pearses, Gneeveguilla and An Ghaeltacht respectively. This was our first outing of the season and it certainly helped as an introduction to more competitive games. A special mention to some of our senior under eight players of Tommy, Hugh and Blake who had played in the under eight’s blitz the previous day and played very well with the under 10’s. Well done to everyone who played and thanks to their parents for getting them there. We had an energetic session at the Academy last Sunday morning and great to see Lainey back in training again. Chloe, Tara and Aimee put in a good session with Chloe making some excellent catches during the final game. Don’t forget to practice with a ball for 20 minutes every day at home during the week.
U14 Girls: Thanks to Jerry Dwyer, Lee Strand who presented our U14 girls with brand new jerseys during last Wednesday’s training. Also thanks to Juvenile Secretary, Terry Boyle for facilitating this. Training continues next Wednesday at the usual time of 6pm. Looking forward to seeing everyone.
U14 Boys: Our U14 boys made the very short trip to Strand Road to take on neighbours, Kerins O’Rahilly’s in a rescheduled County League match last Saturday but came away empty-handed. Playing in very windy conditions and against the wind in the first half, our boys were subjected to constant pressure which often resulted in scores for the home side as we never really got going. In the second half as we have seen in recent matches, we played much better with the wind and were unlucky not to nick in a goal or two. Our last match in the County League is this Wednesday, the 1st May when we welcome Annascaul/Lispole to Blennerville. This match throws in at 7pm.
