Juvenile Academy
U5
The U5 boys and girls enjoyed a fun morning in the sun. We practiced our hand pass and kicking skills. We had target practice with bean bags and hoops. Players of the week went to a brother and sister duo, well done Ella and Rian.
U7
An enjoyable morning at training, well done to Cathal Scanlon player of the week. Enjoy the two week break from Academy.
U8 Girls
Well done to our 11 enthusiastic girls who had a high energy session despite the heat this morning! We welcomed Anna Poff’s cousin Lucy to join us for fun 1 vs 2 drills and lots of kicking practice. The girls’ skills are all improving and were on display in a short match to finish. All our girls had previously won the player of the week trophy so this week it was Olivia who impressed us all with her block downs and scoring! Well done to you all. Enjoy your 2-week academy break & Cul Camp this week and we look forward to more matches in August. Don’t forget to cheer on Kerry next weekend and the Kerry Ladies the following week.
U9
We had a good session Sunday Morning in the heat, we started with a warmup which included hand passing, soloing and side stepping. We practiced our kick passing and point kicking and finished with a competitive game again. We will take a break from training for the next two weekends for the academy summer break.
U10 Girls
We had a great turnout today Sunday 17th July for U10 Girls training. The weather was glorious, and the temperature was high. During practice we focused on improving skills – hand passing, point scoring and kicking. Given the day was so hot the girls took plenty of water breaks and instead of a match we had a penalty competition where the girls had to score against goalkeeper coach Kieran. While it wasn’t an easy task, they made some great strikes resulting in some fine goals. Special mention to Grace Costello on her first day back after recovering so well from her injury, and Lexi who joined us today for training for the first time. We are breaking for the next 2 Sundays after which we will look forward to more training and matches in August.
U11 Boys
Our boys trained on Thursday and Sunday morning this week in preparation for the Central Region Go Games which will commence in the next few weeks. We were also delighted to hear that our team was chosen to play in the Munster U11 Go Games in Páirc Uí Chaoimh. Our boys will travel to Cork on Tuesday week which will be a great opportunity for them all. We will train this Thursday in preparation for it and there will be no training on Sunday due to the All-Ireland final. Keep up the practice at home and we hope all our lads enjoy the Cúl camp this week.
U12 Girls
Well done to everyone for coming to training on Sunday morning in such warm conditions. Seen as this was our last session for 2 weeks, we had a fun filled session where the girls were allowed to choose what games to play. We played dodge ball, obstacle courses, races, football rounders and prisoner boxes. All the girls got sweets and ice pops to cool down afterwards. Also Well done to Niamh Murphy who won our footballer of the week trophy. Niamh has played excellent in a lot of our matches and always manages to score a few sneaky goals. There have been many occasions where Niamh has deserved to win the trophy and her time has finally come. Keep up the practice at home and we will see you all in 2 weeks.
U13
Training continues with a very good session in Kerins O’Rahilly’s pitch in Ballyrickard on Tuesday last. The extra numbers participating in training is improving the quality and intensity of the sessions. On Thursday evening we had a challenge game against Castlegregory played in St Pat’s. This was the first game for the amalgamated Kerins O’Rahillys/St. Pat’s team, and it proved to be a challenging one for this new team. The first half was quite competitive with both sides playing good quality football although Castlegregory maintained a lead for most of the half. As the second half progressed the experience and teamwork of Castlegregory allowed them to dominate most of the exchanges and the game finished with them well in front. It was good to get this challenge game as it allowed a lot of players to get game time and experience playing together. Training continues Tuesday evening in St Pat’s with the possibility of another challenge game on this Thursday. We hope all our young players participating in the Cúl Camp in St. Pat’s this week have a good week of fun, activity and develop their football skills.
U15
Both sides were defeated last week. In Div 2, Miltown Castlemaine got the better of our charges and in Div 5, Castleisland Desmond’s were victorious.
There is one remaining game in Div 5 v Ballymac and in Div 2 John Mitchels and Churchill provide the opposition to complete the fixtures venues for these games are to be decided.
U17
Our U17’s played valiantly in their replay of the semifinal of U17 Central Region against Skellig Rangers/Valentia, unfortunately it wasn’t to be in the end. Well done to all involved and to both Clubs working so well together.
Minor
St Brendan’s Minors begin their campaign in the Minor Football Championship Round 1 in Milltown on Monday night the 18th of July at 7pm against East Kerry.
Seniors B
Our Senior Bs played in their Round 2 of the Tralee/St Brendan’s Junior League against Austin Stacks C on Tuesday the 12th of July. Cillian Lynch scored a goal in the first few minutes of the first half. A point was scored on behalf of Austin Stacks, Cillian Lynch kicked the ball to score a point. The opposition replied with a point of their own and Cillian lynch was awarded a free to which it sailed over the bar to add another point to St Pat’s scoring. Austin Stacks scored two points in quick succession, Darragh Moriarty shot the ball over to add his own point. With time running low Austin Stacks added two of their own points. Cillian Lynch again scored a point with James Friel adding a point also, in the dying minutes of the first half Cillian Lynch shot the ball past the goalkeeper to score a goal. The first half ended St Pats 2-05 Austin Stacks C 0-06.
Austin Stacks got three unanswered points to try to close the gap between the two teams, three points were scored by Cormac Lynch and Breandan Savage got his own point also. Austin Stacks scored another point to try to keep up with the scoring, Shane Jordan, and Ali Gardezi each got a point of their own to keep St Pats leading. This game was very quick, and credit must be giving to the Lynch Brothers who kept the game going with scoring or involved in assists throughout the game. Each player had their part to play, and each played extremely well including substitutes who provided fresh legs when needed. The final whistle blew to read St Pats 2-11 to Austin Stacks C 0-10.
Our Senior B’s were to play in the Developmental League Final last Saturday night this wasn’t played and is postponed until further notice.
