Lotto

Our lotto was held on Monday night, June 3rd in Skelper Quane’s Bar due to the Dingle Way Challenge, which took place the day before. Please check our FaceBook page for this week’s winning numbers.

Poff Motors/Top Part Dingle Way Challenge 2019
Last Sunday saw St. Pats GAA host the seventh Dingle Way Challenge with the aim to raise funds for the development projects the club is undertaking to enhance our facilities for our players, members and the greater community in general, and thankfully, it was successful despite the windy and occasional showery conditions. Participants for the Ultra route gathered at the clubhouse as early as 4.30am for registration and briefing on safety from the organising committee. As with previous challenges, this years was no exception as it provided walkers with a choice of 2 challenges: The standard DWC of which there were 2 options: Option 1 was a 31km walk with the route going from from Ballyferriter to Dingle and Option 2 was a 53km walk from Ballyferriter to Annascaul. Walkers were treated to breathtaking views of West Kerry, which is reknowned for it’s spectacular landscape. These memories will certainly remain with our participants for a long while.
There was also the Ultra route which was 60km long with the trek beginning very early at 6am in the morning at Murragh walk via Smerwick Harbour and Slea Head and on to Duncaoin where breakfast was served at Krugers, from where the walk went around Slea Head and on to Ventry and to Dingle. Again the walkers were treated to lunch there. Leaving Dingle on the old Connor Pass road and turning east along the high road which took in the spectacular views of Dingle Bay via Lispole and Minard with the walkers finished in Annascaul, linking with other walkers participating in the standard challenge. There was also a juvenile section which was geared towards our juvenile members and it started in Lispole and also finished in Annascaul which was about 11km. Thanks to Grainne Mulvihill, assisted by Dipo Dairo and Brian Quilter in looking after the juveniles.
Congratulations to the first 2 ultra walkers (they actually ran it!), Geraldine O’Sullivan from Bantry and club man, Garrett Scollard who arrived at The South Pole Inn at 3.15pm. After all the walking was done, all were invited to Skelper Quane’s Bar for “refreshments” and a chance to interact with other walkers and members of the community.
Overall, the event was very successful with over 300 participants coming from near places such as Cork, Longford, Wicklow, Dublin, Tipperary, Limerick and as far as Germany, UK and even America! The club will like to use this opportunity to thank our main sponsors, Poff Motors and Top Part and all the other businesses who contributed to this event by providing services, food, drinks and donating generously. We encourage all our club members to support these businesses in any way they can. Many thanks to Blennerville/Derrymore Community First Responders, Kerry Mountain Rescue and the local Civil Defence as well as Derryquay ICA for helping out with the catering, our club members and members of the general public who supported the event by participating and contributing in no small ways to the smooth running of this event. Well done to Derek and the rest of the organising committee for the meticulous planning in ensuring everything ran like clockwork. Finally, a huge thanks goes to all the walkers who participated either for the first time or returnees and ensured that it was a success. It wouldn’t have happened without your participation and we appreciate it. We look forward to seeing you all next year.
